An after school nanny is one that you have hired to bridge that gap between when school ends and when you get home from work, they typically work 3-6 hours a day five days a week as opposed to being a full time nanny. For that reason hourly salaries can tend to be a big higher as it is hard for them to pick up a secondary gig for the morning. Also for this reason you get a lot of nanny’s who study part time or who are on student visa’s picking up these sorts of gigs as they are a great supplement to their income.
After school nannies are normally by nature ‘live out’ nannies, i.e. they don’t live with your family. But ideally should live within close proximity to your family. They will still perform a variety of duties but these may be somewhat more limited than a full time nanny, and can include things like preparing meals, assistance with housework, driving the children to places, arranging any extra-curricular activities, and/or arranging play dates for the children. They will typically specialise in young school age children age five and upwards, though they can look after younger children as well.

An after school nanny can be the one that picks them up from after school clubs such as sports, or other activities as well and makes sure that they are clean and fed when you get home from work. They can be a great boon to working parents, that don’t want to employ a nanny full time, but need someone they can rely on to be there when the children finish school for the day, before you get home from work.
