A live out nanny is a nanny that is employed by you that doesn’t live within your home. This is the opposite to a live in nanny. With a live out nanny they still have their own place at which they sleep and live, and you would want this to be relatively close to where you live.
The live out nanny can still work full time, part time, or any variation of that. It is just that you are not providing somewhere for them to live as well. It is important with a live out nanny that you know what times they are available for you, and when you are able to contact them in the case of an emergency. They will be living their own lives when they are not under your roof just like any other person and so you will not just be able to call them at any time to do what you want.
You will want to have a clear working schedule, but this can be at different times, for example, you could have them come by in the morning to get the children up and to school, and then come by in the afternoon to collect the kids from school and then feed them and put them to bed, leaving the majority of the day to the nanny themselves. Or it could be that you just have the nanny for 9-5, Monday – Friday, to cover the time that you are at your job, and therefore their hours mirror your own. This would be a fairly typical working arrangement and is the most common type of employment for a nanny. It is important that you know that your nanny can be reliable and punctual if they are a live out nanny and be aware of travel times to and from your address.
